We are the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) of St. Clair County in Alabama.
We strive to provide the best emergency communications possible to serve our community.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted us the call sign K4SCC, which really stands for Kilo 4 Sierra Charlie Charlie, but we like to think it stands for Kilo 4 St Clair County. Our group members volunteer their own time, talent, vehicles and radio equipment.
Want to join our informal group? We want you too! We have a very informal group. There are no membership fees or dues. There are no applications for general activities. Our monthly business/training meeting is held at the EMA in Pell City, Alabama. (Please check our meeting schedule on the calendar for correct dates and times). Whether you are interested in HAM radio, want to be a radio operator, want to get your 'ticket' or you are a seasoned operator; you are welcome to attend... Everyone is welcome!
Activities include weekly emergency practice nets.
These nets are held on our repeater (145.130 with a pl tone of 103.5) every Tuesday at 8 o'clock pm.
All HAMs are welcome to participate in this directed net.
We also assist with disaster simulations and CSEPP.
Certain times during the year the state of Alabama calls upon us to participate in a Statewide Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Plan (CSEPP) exercise for the Anniston Army Depot where chemical weapons are stored and disposed of. Our participation consists of handling radio traffic messages and other communications to keep us in practice in case the phone lines go down.
